2-12-18 Daily Blog: Mild, Active and Wet Week Ahead; Warmth Sticks Around Awhile
Who’s ready for the 60s? A very mild week is coming our way. In fact, it looks like a milder pattern may lock in for awhile. I wouldn’t totally count out winter yet, but it’s on hold for awhile. Both the American and the European ensemble data show a pretty mild stretch of weather coming up across Southern Indiana and Kentucky over the next two weeks.
That’s enough to give me Spring fever! Still think there may be some cooler times possible to end February and open up March. I wouldn’t count that idea out just yet. Winter’s revenge? Probably not. The later it gets, the harder it’s going to be to get very cold weather to come in. But I do think some cooler time could come our way after this milder stretch.
Either way, the milder weather is here to stay for awhile and it is going to bring some wet weather with it. Looking at what the modeling shows for the next two week and comparing it to the current Drought Monitor, it looks like some much needed rain could be on the way for some very dry areas.
For us here in Southern Indiana & Kentucky, the active weather is going to be around awhile. Look for a pretty wet period here from Wednesday through Friday. Severe weather looks very limited with this system. There is some wind energy to work with, but not much instability. So I’m not hopeful for much in the way of severe weather at this time.
An inch or two of rain is very possible for us with this system this week. That could spell more flooding concerns for Kentucky, where there has already been way too much rain over the past few days. This would only make things worse there. The system could end as some flurries or very light snow showers on Friday morning, as it all departs. If it does, it will be very minimal impact. And I’m skeptical at this point how much snow it could spit out. I’d look for it to be not much, if anything.
Then, early next week, we have yet another system coming through. More rain for the Lower Ohio Valley. More systems come behind this, too. Very active, rainy period coming up over the next two weeks.
